KORAKONUI DISTRICT
JUBILEE OF SETTLEMENT [from our own correspondent] TE AWAMUTU. Thursday The Korakonui district, 15 miles from Te Awamutu, is this week celebrating its silver jubilee. The first settler took up his balloted section in March, 1910, and ho was quickly followed by others. As showing how the district has developed since then, a settler computes that there are less than 30 settlers on about 6500 acres in the district, carrying over 2000 dairy cows, besides many sheep, horses and other livestock. It is estimated that this season's output of butter-fat will exceed 650,0001b, or nearly 300 tons. The settlers are great believers in the value of pasture topdressing, and at present there is such splendid growth that far more hay and ensilage will be made this summer than ever before. Jersey cattle are in the great majority, and several of the settlers have pedigree and highgrade herds.
