TWOPENCE IN BURGLARY

INTRUDERS BLOW OPEN SAFE CITY PREMISES VISITED \ Burglars who broke into the premises of the Ridge Tyre Remoulding Company, Limited, Beach Rodd. City, blew open the safe, forced the till and rifled a number of desks, but all they secured was twopence. There was no money in the safe, and the two pennies had been left in the till. The stock was not. tampered with. ... The office was in disorder when the staff arrived yesterday morning. The intruders entered through a back window after taking out some glass louvres and forcing aside iron bars. They removed the safe bodily from the office near the front of the building to the workshop at the back, and wrapped round it rugs taken from the floor in the office, to deaden the sound of the explosion. Books and office records kept in the safe were damaged •by the explosion, which enabled the door to be opened. The men overlooked some stamps that were in the safe, but made a thorough search of the office. The company's premises were visited by thieves over a year ago. The safe was also blown open on that occasion, but no money had been left in it.
