CAUSES OF DISLOCATION OFFICIAL EXPLANATION In a letter to tho Auckland Chamber of Commerce, as a result of complaint by tho chamber concerning tho dislocation of mail services between New Zealand and Australia, tho Chief Postmaster at Auckland stated that the Postal Department would like to soo a regular tirue-table maintained by steamers cn tho transtasman run to enable a good connection at Sydney with tho English air mail service. It was pointed out by tho Chief Postmaster that tho air mail servico was framed so that arrival would bo made at Sydney cn Fridays, in time to allow the mail to connect with a steamer sailing for Now Zealand about that time. Departure would bo taken on Tuesdays, soon after tho arrival of tho steamer from Now Zealand. When Bteamers wero dolayed mails wore mis<scd ' Tho Post and Telegraph Department had no contract for tho carriage of mails across the Tasraan, and tho shipping companies could not bo com polled to adhere to a time-table. The recent difficulty was duo to shipping trouble, but tho department's experience was that tho shipping companies did all that was reasonably possible to make tho necessary connection.
