BRITISH ELECTION /PARTIES' CANDIDATES TOTAL OF 1315 STANDING 38 UNOPPOSED RETURNS By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright British Wireless RUGBY, Nov. 4 For tho general election to bo held on November 14 about 1316 candidates were nominated to-day for the 615 seats in the House of Commons, of whom 582 are supporters of the National Government, including 512 Conservatives, 44 National Liberals, 20 National Labour and six others. IJnopposecl returns, which number 38, inplude the Prime Minister, Mr. Baldwin, and the President of tho Board of Trade, Mr. Walter Puinciman, and Sir Alan Anderson. As a result of tho unopposed returns the .s'tate of the parties in tho now House of Commons to dato is as follows: —• Conservatives . . . « . . 22 National Liberals .... 3 Labour Li Tho ,13 Labour candidates represent mainly Welsh constituencies and in 1931 had largo majorities, soino having been unopposed. Sir Ronald Ross (Conservative —• Londonderry) was unexpectedly returned unopposed owing to the breakdown of a motor-car, causing his intend od opponent to arrive breathless when nominations, had just closed. Labour candidates total 552 and Liberals 154. Major C. It. Attleo and Mr. /Lloyd George havo Conservative opponents. Sir Herbert Samuel is opposed by a Conservative and a Labour eandidato, a woman, Mr. Churchill by a Liberal aud a Labour aspirant. Women candidates total 65.
