13-MILE ADVANCE MADE

' \ • high points occupied PLANS OF THE DEFENDERS INVASION TO BE RESISTED SOON By Teleeraph—Press Association—Copyiiijht (Received November S, 5.5 p.m.) LONDON. Not. 4 The Addis Ababa correspondent of the Daily Mail, Major-General C. F. C. Fuller, author of "Tanks in the Great War," states that in spite of heavy rain the Italians advanced a further 13 miles to-day, two converging columns meeting within 20 miles of Makale. v Other despatches state that officials in Addis Ababa admit that once the Italians reach Makale resistance can be no longer delayed. A message from Asmara, Eritrea, states that the Italian line was advanced 1 5 miles yesterday, the Abyssinians retiring before the invaders, who resumed the movement at dawn to-day, midget tanks advancing ahead of the respective columns. Villagers waving white flags and women shrieking a welcome greeted the troops with large herds of cattle carefully concealed and brought out to be sold to the Italians. After the occupation of Hauzien, south-east of Adowa, General Biroli's Askaris, whose flanks, in accordance with the systematic plan of the advance, were well protected, occupied heights to the south-west, and General Santiini's Black Shirts crowned those to the south-east. His main force is pushing on the Via Inglese. This means that the Italian advance guards are well south of Hauzien dominating the highlands above Gheralta. The people of Mender, south-east of Hauzien, welcomed the incoming Black Shirts. The Sabauda division, a portion of General Santini's command, supports the advance toward Amba Alagi, where, definite resistance is prophesied.
