YACHT RACING
FIXTURES FOR SATURDAY RACES OF SEVERAL CLUBS The yacht racing season in Auckland will start on Saturday afternoon, when the Akarana, Richmond, Takapuna and Howick Clubs will carry out fixtures. The Akarana Club will hold cruising races for keel yachts and mullet to Matiatia and also a harbour race for 18-footers in conjunction with the Howick Sailing Club. The Richmond Club's fixture will take the form of a harbour sweepstake race and the Takapuna Club will cater for class 7,. The season will be officially opened on Saturday week, when all clubs will take part iri harbour and cruising races The two Manukau clubs will also open their season on the same day. A new Y class boat, designed by Mr. J. Brooke, has been built by Mr. G. Miller for Mr. R. Gurr. She i 3 of tho semi-square bilge type and is expected to give a good account of herself The A class keel yacht Moana, which spent last season on hard, is to be put afloat this year. Sho is hauled up on Messrs. I/owe and Son's slipway in Beaumont Street, where she is to undergo a thorough overhaul. Mr. N. C. Main's new 40ft. keol yacht now being built bv Mr. A. Conlclrcy, of Northcote, is expected to be launched on Saturday morning. She will be christened Waiomo and will moor in Mechanics' Bay. The 32ft. cruising launch Renown, formerly owned by Mr. L. Lang, has been sold by Mr. R. H. Wood to Mr. A. H. Honeyfield, of Palmerston North. It is the intention of her now owner to use the Renown for swordfishinp; at Mayor Island. Tho launch, which was built bv Mr. H. Parkinson, of Ponsonby, in 1920, will make Katikati, Bay of Plenty, her headquarters, and will leave for her destination this week. The 14ft. Y class boat Wairangi, formed v owned by C. V. Moloney, of St. Heliers Bay, has been purchased by Mr. Suckling, ot Mount Kden. Among tho boats that visited Matiatia last week-end tvoro Royal Falcon, Restless, Lady Joan, Lady Thelm.a, Atatu, Rakoii. Tawhiri, Vanitie and 'Ao-Tea-Roa, Wirihana, Linda and Lady Clare were at Hook's Bay, Waiheke. The well-known L class boat Uouen, lately owned by Mr. W. Kxter, of Avondale, lias been sold by Mr. L. R. Matthews to Mr. C. Webster, of Devonport, formerly owner of the 22-footer Hilda. The Rouen was built in 1922 and, except for her first two seasons and tho last two years, she has been used for cruising in the Bay of Islands. Tho 28ft. bridge deck cruiser has been sold by Mr. L. R. Matthews to Sir. A. Holebrook, of Paniell. Wyoma was formerly owned by Mr. W. J. Service and was built in 1927, by Messrs. Deeming Bros., of Russell.
