SHORTLAND STREET PLAN AGREEMENT COMPLETED DEMOLISHING OLD POST OFFICE Arrangements between tho Government, the City Council and the National Bank of New Zealand in connection with the Shortland Street Post Office site?on which a now Government building is to be erected, «are now practically completed. The purchasing officer of the Public Works Department is now in Auckland with a view to arranging temporary accommodation for tho departments which are housed in the old Post Office building. Whori these quarters have been acquired and are ready for occupation, tenders will be called for the demolition of tho building. Under tho arrangement tho City Council will take over a 40ft. wide strip of the property for tho purpose of constructing a new street from Shortland Street to Fort Street, and tho National Bank will acquire a strip three inches wide on the eastern edge of the site, which will enable the wall of the bank when exposed to be improved with plaster or other ornamentation. The departments at present occupying the old Post Office building are tho Shortland Street branch of tho post office, the Labour and Unemployment Offices, and the State Fire Jnsuranco office. v.
