A satisfactory financial position was revealed in the balance-sheet presented at tho 21st annual meeting of the J.C.L. Insurance, Benevolent, Presentation, Recreatiop. and Library Society, held in the roof garden tearooms of John Court, Limited, last evening. It was disclosed that there was a balance in hand of £661. The annual report showed that there were now 416 members of the society, and that 295 claims had been paid during the year, and 6.5 presentations made. The library contained 763 books. Mr. 1". Davidson was re-elected president, Miss M. Worsley secretary. Miss M. Isbistcr, treasurer, Miss JI. Smith, librarian, and Mr. T. Ilill, secretary, of the recreation dub. A vote of thanks was passed to the firm for its generosity in making grants and subsidising tho fund. The meeting was followed by a social evening. Vocal, instrumental and elocutionary items were given by members of the society, and a play of topical interest was produced by Mr. A. McSkimming.
