A 4000 MILE ROAD
TRANS-CANADIAN HIGHWAY
A magniricent motoring highway, four thousand miles in length, will be completed in Canada this year. J his road, said to bo the finest of its kind m the world, will traverse the entire breadth of Canada, running from the Atlantic to the Pacific Ocean. It has been constructed by tho Canadian Oovernment, not only for the advancement of the great Dominion's domestic interests, but also as a scenic attraction for tourists. It has given employment to thousands of men during a period of great difficulty, and its opening will bring to all who travel down this great highway an adequate idea of the vastness of the Dominion of the Snows.
From the scenic viewpoint, it will offer unique attractions under ideal travelling conditions. Vast stretches of prairie, where the road hardly aries in gradient, will be traversed, great rivers will be crossed, and in the final stages of the journey from east to west, motorists will pass through the Canadian Rockies, containing some of the grandest mountain scenery in the world. . . A similar idea of a great national highway, linking up the remote districts of tin? South Island of Zioaland has been put forward in recent years Such a road, traversing the mountain and forest areas of South Vest land and the Fiordland country, would be truly magnificent from the scenic viewpoint, but the stupendous cost of reading such wild and inhospitable country would probably ? ut " weigh any consideration of practical utility for many years to come. -t- »** V 4 1 *
