ROTORUA SEAT
CANDIDATE'S POSITION MR. DOIDGE AND DEMOCRATS NO "POLITICAL POHUTU" It had been suggested by Mr. W. Xash that there was something sinister in the fart that the speaker had come forward as an Independent when his name had first been linked with that of the Democrat Party, said Mr. F. W. Doidge, Independent candidate for Rotorua,, in an address to electors at Hinuera. There was nothing mysterious behind the story of Doidge and the Democrats. The whole story would come out in due course—probably in the witness box in the course of a legal action now 011 the lists. "It is true the Democrats approached me," said Mr. Doidge. "They invited mo to their conference in Wellington, but they withdrew that jery rudely, when they found I ha'd entered the lists as an independent candidate for Rotorua. But they have never given up hope of drawing me back into the fold. Three weeks ago their Auckland provincial organiser visited this constituency. He called upon the chairman of my Matamata committee, Mr. B. C. Taylor. The organiser announced that the party's nominee for tho Rotorua constituency was not intending to proceed with tho campaign, and he urged that my committee should prevail upon me to seek the Democrat nomination. In the light of these facts, it is obvious that Mr. Nash, on this issue, has failed to stir into action a political Pohutti. On the contrary, he has slipped into one of Whaka's porridge pots, and has rather muddied himself in the process."
