AUCKLAND MEETING

LIST OF ACCEPTANCES THE JELLICOE HANDICAP ELEVEN HORSES ENGAGED Excellent acceptances were received yesterday for tho first day of the Auckland Trotting Club's Spring Meeting which opens at Epsom on Saturday. The principal races aro the Jellicoo and Electric Handicaps, in which 11 and 16 have accepted. The presence of tho New Zealand Trotting Cup horses Impromptu and Worthy Light in tho Jellicoo and Electric Handicaps respectively will give added interest in view of their. Addington engagements. Weo Machine, who is working very well, and 'War Paint, whoso efforts in the Auckland Province have been marked by consistent form, should run well, and tho latter, who appears to prefer right-handed tracks, may bo preferred. Logan's Pride showed a glimpse of form at Hamilton, and when attuned is a good stayer. Bingen Chief raced successfully at all distances last season, and the only time he was unplaced at two miles was in the Adams Memorial Cup on a very heavy track. He should be ono of tho hardest to beat. On their displays at tho last Auckland meetings, Nimbus and Smooger should claim a lot of attention, and a return duel will bo very interesting. They met three times, Nimbus winning twice and Smooger once. Willie Derby, who looked well and won the sprint at Hamilton, must bo considered dangerous. His form at two milos last season was consistently good, and a little improvement should give him good prospects.

Kewpie's Triumph was not at his best ivhen he registered two thirds at the earlier meetings, but he is showing fine progress in his training. Auto Machine and Impromptu are not without prospects. Some to he fancied early include Wee Machine, War Paint, Bingen Chief, Nimbus and Smooger. In tho Electric Handicap, Ringtrue, Supertax and Edna Worthy are recent winners who should go well off tho limit, while Trustworthy, Cimarron and Herod are capable of sound efforts. Manoeuvre may have improved for W. Orange, and Logan's Pride showed signs of returning to form at Hamilton. Wee Machine is well placed, while Prince Pedro and Smooger are recent winners at the distance. Worthy Light, although he has not had a race this season, represents high class, and is sure to be dangerous Early fancies include Ringtrue, Supertax, Trustworthy, Logan's Pride and Worthy Light. Following are the acceptances:—

BARRIER EDUCATION YOUNG HORSES AT EPSOM Mr. J. Gavin, who has been promoted from assistant to the position of starter for the Auckland Trotting Club, was present at Epsom yesterday to givo youfljg horses barrier practice. The barrier was erected at the mile and a-quarter post, tho horses being given a run of a furlong and a-half nlong the hack. Spessiva, Agnes Bingen, Kewpie's Bingen and tho trotter Bingen Sun faced the barrier with the veteran Glandore, and,Spessiva, who has had some race experience, began smartest. The othor young horses improved with a start or two and tho experience should prove beneficial to them.
