HOSPITAL PATIENT

TREATMENT OUTSIDE ARK A"; WHAKATANE BOARD'S DECISION [by telegraph—own - correspondent! WHAKATANE, Tuesdiy Although in the Bay of Plenty Hospital Board's area, residents of the Galatea and Te Whaiti districts usually go to the Rotorua Hospital for medical treatment. In commenting upon this fact at a meeting of the Whakatane Hospital Board, at which a number of accounts was received for the treatment of patients from the Galatea district at the Rotorua Hospital, the chairman, Mr. J. W. Sumner said apparently the people did not realise that they lived in the Whakatane Board's area and should go to its hospital. He further explained that if the accounts for the treatment of uhe patients were not paid the amounts were demanded from the Bay of Ploutv Board. Now that Whakatane was as easily accessible as Rotorua, the board should insist on the patients being brought to Whakatane for treatment and the board should not accept the responsibility for the payment of fees for patients of Galatea who were treated at Rotorua. The board decided to notify the residents of the Galatea, Murupara, Te Whaiti and Ruatahuna districts that in cases of sickness or accident neceiisiiating hospital treatment the patients, should be sent to the Whakatane Hospital.
