LOCALITY OF FIRST STAND

POSITION SOtJTH OF ADOWA GUGSA'S TROOPS WITH ITALIANS ROME. Oct. IS Italian airmen in northern Abyssinia are reported to have discovered extensive defensive works between Alagi and Sakota, 110 miles south of Adowa, indicating where the Abyssinians' first strong stand will be made. The whole of Degiac Gugsa's surrendered forces are now re-equipped and have been sent to the front under Italian commanders. It is explained that the Italians could have taken Aksum earlier by force, but preferred its peaceful capitulation in order not to violate the religious feelings of the Abyssinians. No damage was done to the cathedral, where Moses Tables of Law are supposed to be preserved. The Italians unearthed in the Governor's residence quantities of modern arms, including dumdum cartridges alleged be of British manufacture.
