Mrs. H. R. Kirker, Arney Road, Remuora, is spending n holiday in Rotorua.

Miss Anne Seagrove, of Bayswater, is the guest of Mrs. K. Bowden, of Te Awaniutu.

Miss B. Tilly, Victoria Avenue, Remuera, is visiting Rotorua and is at the Grand Hotel.

Miss Blanche Hanna, of Wellington, arrived in Auckland this week by aeroplane on a short visit.

Mrs. Mofl'at-Clow, of Belfast, Ireland, who has been touring the Dominion, returned to Auckland yesterday and is staying at Glenalvon.

Mrs. Ronald Webster, Benson Road, Remuera, who has been visiting her mother, Mrs. E. Bevan, in Wellington, will return to Auckland to-day.

Mrs. A. Dykes and Miss H. Dykes, of Auckland, who have been visiting Great Britain, are passengers by the Orion, due in Sydney from London on November 7.

Mrs. T. V. Humphrey, of Whangapoa station, Upper Atiamuri, who has been spending a holiday at Cheltenham as the guest of Mrs. P. Roache, has returned home.

At the Station Hotel are:—Mrs. S. Ziman (Catmbridge), Mrs. G. Wright (Dunedin), Mrs. T. Fletcher Telford and Miss 8.. Telford (Christchurch), Miss Ramage (Tsiuranga) and Miss Ida Scarr (Sydney). The mothers' club of the Y.W.C.A. met this week, Mrs. Hynes presiding. An impromptu discussion on current topics took place. Songs were given by Mrs. Eckles. The hostesses, Mesdames Greep, Clarke and Quigley, served tea. Canterbury visitors to Heretaunga for the Dominion golf championships include: —Mrs. M. H. Godby, Mrs. R. Lewis, Miss Dorothy Chrystall, Miss Jessie Wilkin, Miss R. CracroftWilson. Miss Edna White-Parsons and Miss Helen Buchanan. A meeting of the Devonport Presbyterian Women's 'Missionary Union was held yesterday afternoon, and took the form of a home mission gathering. The speaker was the Rev. C. E. Perkins, of St. Heliers, and the soloist was Mrs. Colin Fairgray. Afternoon tea was served and a collection made on behalf of the Home Mission Christmas Cheer Fund. Miss L. Gordon and Miss R. Taylor, of Auckland, will leave by tho Marama to-day to take up mission work in Africa and India respectively. Miss Gordon intends to assist in the Dan. Crawford Memorial Hospital, Luanza, while Miss Tavlor is to work dmong the Indians of Tinnevelly. Both received their nursing training in Auckland. The Papakura Croquet Club held its official opening on Wednesday. There was a good attendance of local visitors and members of surrounding clubs. Mrs. Lound, president, welcomed those present, and the patroness .of the club, Mrs. E. D. McLennan, played the first ball. Progressive croquet was played, the winners being:—A grade, Mrs. Lawrie, Pukekohe; B grade, Mrs. Collie,- Manurewa; hidden number, Mrs. Forbes.

A pleasant function held recently by the ladies of the Shackleton Road Baptist Church took the form of a cup and saucer afternoon. The president, Mrs. Duncomb, presided. Prizes for compactions were won by Mesdames Archer and Blackburn. Vocal solos were rendered by Mrs. Gellard. Mrs. Dow contributed' the thought for the month, and the roll call was answered by "a cure for the blues." Afternoon tea, served by a committee, brought the meeting to a conclusion.

The annual meeting of the combined Girl Guide committees was held at the Guide House, Ouimai, Mrs. N. Coates, provincial commissioner, presiding. Mrs. McCosh Clark, the new divisional commissioner, was welcomed. About 100 committee representatives attended the meeting. Mrs. Coates read the annual report and Miss Phillips' report on badge work. Miss Marks presented the year's balance-sheet. At the close of the meeting members spent an enjoyable time picnicking under the trees.

The weekly concert at the Auckland Hospital, arranged by Mrs. Raeburn and Mr. A. Hamblin, was held in ward 2 on SVednesday evening. The programme consisted of songs, duets, elocution and fancy dancing. A very happy hour was spent by the patients. Those taking part were Miss Gladys Stormont, Miss Patricia Boyle, Miss Aldwvth Dunn, Miss Nita Copeland, Mr. S. Stephenson, Mr. Frank MeKnight, Mr. S. Stephenson and Mr. F. McKnight. The accompanists were Madame Dunn and Mrs. Boyle.

Miss O. Netterfield Berry, of Auckland, and Miss R. Daines, of Tauranga, had a very interesting tour, via Suva, Pago Pago, Honolulu, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Vancouver, and across the Canadian Rockies, on their way to Banff, Niagara and Now York, wrote our London correspondent on September 28. On arrival at Southampton, they spent a few wee!ks in London and then crossed tO' Ireland, which Miss Berry toured from north to south. After this the two friends went to the Continent. Miss Berry will now remain in Ireland until her departure for New Zealand, via the Mediterranean and India.
