DUAL POWER SUPPLY

REMUERA AND PARNF.LL GRADUAL CHANGE-OVER Although alternating current of electric pbwer was made available in parts of the Remuera and Parnell districts yesterday, it will probably be about 10 years before the existing direct current in those areas is entirely eliminated. The general manager of the Auckland Electric-Power Board, Mr. R. H. Bartley, stated yesterday that dual supply would be available for some years.

"The policy of the board for a number of years now has been a system of gradual change-over from direct to alternating current," said Mr. Bartley. "In cases whore dual supply has been made available consumers have been advised that any alteration or additions to their electrical equipment must bo suitable for alternating current and that such changes could be made at minimum cost.

"It is hoped that by adopting this "courso many consumers will come over willingly to the alternating current supply, and that neither the consumer nor the board will feel the cost involved in the work. It is recognised throughout the world that alternating current supplies will become universal. Fully 75 per cent of the supply in Auckland has now been changed to alternating current,"
