TRAMWAY APPEAL CASE
MEN TO BE RE-ENGAGED NO PAY IN THE INTERIM [by TELEOTUrrT—PRESS ASSOCIATION] CHRISTCniJRCTT, Thursday Tho Tramway Appeal Board's judgment in tho appeals against dismissal by three tramwaymon was delivered this afternoon. Mr. H. A. Young, S.M., who presided, said that tho board had decided by a majority that tho appeals should bo allowed, but that tho three appellants should bo suspended without pay from the timo of their dismissal and again placed on tho roster when tho first vacancies dccur. Appellants were William Lewis, Frank George Buckley and Frederick James Mitchell.
Before tho board gave judgment, Mr. C. S. Thomas, chief counsel for appellants, said ho would like to make a statement regarding reports which had appeared in tho newspapers concerning the visit of a deputation to the Prime Minister, Mr. Forbes, this week. His clients knew nothing about it, nor was it known for what purpose the deputation had waited on Mr. Forbes. There had been some suggestion that his clients had been trying to get through " tho back door," but he hoped the board would understand that this was definitely not so. There was also some suggestion that appellants had had solicitors sent to Wellington on their behalf, but this too was not fc-ue.
