PROFESSIONAL PLAY
MURRAY AND SHAW WIN FULLER'S FINE EFFORT [by telegraph—SrEClAli reporter] CHRISTCHURCH, Thursday The semi-finals of the professional championship were played over 36 holes to-day and results were as expected. In the morning A. Murray finished 2 down to N. H. Fuller, a former Auckland professional, and it was a good effort on Fuller's part, as Murray was round in 73. For the first nine holes Murray was not hitting his shots as convincingly as usual, but he settled down to come home in 34. After lunch Murray squared the match by winning two of the first four holes, and he reached the turn in 34, at which stage ho was 1 up. Ho played the next six holes in three under fours, finishing the match when ho holed a 2 at the 15th after a masterly iron shot had finished within six feet of the hole. J. R. Galloway won the first throe holes from A. j. Shaw, but it was only a temporary lead, as the former lost three holes to the seventh. Shaw took the lead for thp first time at the 16th, but lost the next two, Galloway winning the last with a good 3. Shaw squared the match at the first hole in the afternoon, and he became 1 up when Galloway missed a reasonable putt for a half at the fifth. From here on Shaw dominated the game, his older opponent feeling the strain of hard matches and being obviously tired.
