FIGHTING TROUT

LONDON VISITOR'S PRAISE DOMINION'S FINE ASSET [from our <r vn correspondent] PUTARURU. Thursday Surprise at the size and fighting strength of rainbow trout in the streams of the Putaruru district was expressed by a member of the staff of St. Mary's Hospital, London, Dr. Fish, who, accompanied by his wife, spent several days in the district this week. Dr. Fish attended the British Medical Association conference in Melbourne and had been delayed in Auckland owing to the failure of the Niagara to Bail from Sydney. , . . Compared with the conditions in England, where one had to travel about 100 miles from London and pay large sums for fishing on private waters to catch trout ranging up to three-qunrters of a pound, New Zealand was endowed with a remarkable asset in Dr. Fish's opinion. The largest fish taken by Dr. Fish was a 21b. trout, the biggest fish he had ever landed with the exception of a tiger shark in Sydney Harbour. Dr. Fish and Mrs. Fish have left to visit the Waitomo Caves and will sail from Auckland by tho Mariposa.
