SAFETY ZONE STRUCK

CAR SHATTERS BUTTRESS TWO PERSONS INJURED —l . . • Two persons were injured about 8.15 last night, when the motor-car in which they were travelling collided with a safety zone in Queen Street, opposite Vulcan Lane. The victims were Miss Eileen Fitzhenry, aged 25, of Shortland Flats, City, who received concussion, and Mr. Ronald Jeffrey Chitty, a young man living in Emily Place, City, who suffered scalp wounds. Mr. Chitty was the driver of the car, a roadster, which was proceeding up Queen Street. The concrete buttress of the zone was shattered by the impact, and the front portion of the car was considerably damaged. The occupants were thrown violently forward. They were taken in a St. John ambulance to the Auckland Hospital. Their condition is fairly serious.
