GIRLS' ESCAPADE
NIGHT IN THE OPEN SEARCH FOR ADVENTURE LONG TRAMP OVER HILLS [BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION] "WELLINGTOX, Tuesday Six girl pupils of the Berhampore School, Wellington, were associated last night in an escapade which was conceived in a spirit of adventure and ended in penitence.
When the school concluded that afternoon the girls, whose ages ranged from 10 to 13, set out in accordance with a plan to taste what adventure a night away from home might provide. They took with them overcoats, a rug, and a stub of candle. They wandered as fancy took them, and eventually reached Worser Bay, where they spent the night occupying a boatshed for shelter from a biting southerly wind. In the meantime the alarmed parents had informed the police, organised a search party, and had a description of the girls broadcast over the radio. It was not, however, until about 6 o'clock this morning that one of the searchers discovered all six girls huddled together for warmth and fast asleep on a public seat in the shadow of the Evans Bay powerhouse Evidently, growing apprehensive of the effect of the escapade at their homes and chilled through insufficient bedding, the children had " struck camp " at daybreak and turned their weary steps for home. They shortened the journey by crossing the trackless 1 hills from Worser Bay to Miramar, where, too exhausted to go farther, they fell asleep on the seat.
