TUG BEARING COMPLETION DELIVERY IN NEW YEAR IMPROVING BEACON LIGHTS The Auckland Harbour Board's new tug, the William C. Daldv, which was ordered lasit March with the object of meeting the growing needs of the port, is expected to be delivered at Auckland early in the new year. At yesterday's meeting a report was received from the board's naval architect in England to the effect that very satisfactory progress had been made with the construction of thti vessel in August. The tug had been successfully launched on October 1. >io information has yet been received an to when the William C. Daldy will leave for New Zealand. It is anticipated that the voyago will occupy about two months. A satisfactory report was also received from the board's inspector in England regarding the construction of four new quayside electric} cranes. The cranes would be delivered at Auckland about April of next year. The engineer, Mr. D. Holderness, reported that tenders had been called for armoured cable for the permanent electrification of Bean Bock light. The lantern and flashing mechanism for installation at the beacon on the reef opposite Kauri Point had been received and would bo put into place immediately. The light would come into operation on November 1. An application was made by the general manager of the New Zealand Railways for permission to place a portable ticket and luggage booking office on the wharves, similar to the one in use in Wellington. Permission was granted for the department to place a booking office in the board's sheds. A request from the honorary secretary of the Blockhouse Bay Improvement Association asking the board to erect a jetty at Te Whau Point for the use of residents and visitors was referred to the board in committee. A request from the honorary secretary of the Kohimarama-Mission Bay Progressive League for the provision of a diving punt at Mission Bay was declined. "We have no punt available for this purpose," said the chairman, Mr. C. G. Macindoe. Donations of £lO and £5 5s were made to the Salvation Army and the Piha Surf Life-saving Club respectively.
