LUNCHEON TALK
LOCAL BUSINESS GIRLS The first of a fortnightly series of luncheon talks, to enable the local business girls to meet prominent people who are visiting Auckland, was held in the Milne and Choyce Reception Hall yesterday. The function, at which there was a crowded attendance, was organised by Miss Gladys Armstrong, manageress of the Milne and Choyce tearooms, who recently returned to New Zealand from Sydney, where these luncheon talks are conducted by several of the large business firms. The guests of honour yesterday were Miss Madge Elliott and Mr. Cyril ltitchard, of the J. C. Williamson Musical Comedy Company. At the official table, in addition to the guests ot' honour, were Mr. S. Milne, Mr. It. Milne, Mr. V. Choyce and Mr. E. H. Robinson. Miss Elliott, who was wearing a navy blue Angora wool suit with silver fox furs, and a navy blue hat, was presented with some lovely pink tulips by Mr. Choyce, on behalf of the business girls of Auckland. in extending a welcome to the guests, Mr. V. Choyce said it was an interesting and happy fact that Miss Elliott and Mr. Ritehard were the foundation members of the movement in Sydney. The aim of the club, he continued, was to create a friendly atmosphere, and to provide intelligent interest in the affairs of the day, on the part of the business women. In expressing thanks for the welcome extended to Miss Elliott and himself, Mr. ltitchard spoke of the great admiration and sympathy they both felt for the business girl. He stressed the importance of gaininc a broader outlook on life, if possible, by travel. If unable to travel, the next best thing was to get into contact with peoplo who were able to travel, and who were willing to impart their experience and knowledge..He hoped that on their next visit to Auckland they would* find the club in the same flourishing condition as it was in Sydney to-day.
