APPROACHING NEW SEASON ANNUAL MEETINGS OF CLUBS GOOD PROGRESS AT BIRKDALE r The report presented at the annual meeting of the Birkdale Tennis Club referred to considerable improvements carried out to the courts and grounds, and stated that the amount owing for the pavilion had been cleared off. Presentations of cups were made to Miss R. Chctwynd and J. N. Bissett, the winners of the ladies' and men's handicap singles, and to P. Schorman, the club captain. Miniature cups were presented to Miss Dorothy Chetwynd and R. H. Greville, the 1934 winners. The official opening was fixed for October 12. BAY OF PLENTY MEETING OF SUB-ASSOCIATION ■ A [by telegraph OWN correspondent] TAURANGA, Tuesday The following officers were elected at the annual meeting of the Bay of Plenty Lawn Tennis Sub-association:—President, Mr. R. H. Pholan (Tauranga); vice-president. Mr. G. MacDowell; committeeman, Mr. A. C. Hardy; hon. secretary and treasurer, Mr. C. J. Steedman; hon. auditor. Mr. A. J. Gallagher; delegates to Auckland Lawn Tennis Association, Messrs. Clay. Griffiths and Ingram. The report and balance-sheet showed that a satisfactory season had been, experienced and the standard of play hud improved considerably during the past season. A strong Auckland team had visited the Bay of Plenty and the sub-association's representatives had more than held their own in the matches played. Membership had increased slightly and prospects for the 1935-36 season were particularly bright. The Dunlop Shield, for senior teams, was won by Tauranga South Club, while Waimana won the Watt Cup for junior teams. The Lees' Challenge Cup was successfuly defended by the Tauranga South Club. The open tournaments at Rotorua and Tauranga again proved very popular. Recommendations for inter-club matches with Waikato and Thames Valley teams, and a visit from overseas players arranged by the Auckland Association, as well as a return match with Auckland, were passed by the delegates. f ■ ■ FRANKLIN ASSOCIATION [from our own correspondent] PUKEKOHE, Tuesday A fair representation of delegates at-' tended the annual meeting of the Franklin Lawn Tennis Association held at Pukekohe last night. The president, Mr. J. A. Sparks, welcomed the president of the Auckland Association, Mr. P. Harrison, and the secretary, Mr. N. C. Pierce. The report and balance-sheet, a nummary of which appeared in last Wednesday's Herald, were adopted. The following officers were elected: — Patron, Mr. A. Park Home; president, Mr. Sparks; vice-presidents, Messrs. R. J. Glasgow, A. A. Boyd and W. E. Johns: secretary and treasurer. Mr. W. C. Morrin; emergency committee, Messrs. A. Fausett, R. Fulton and K. Papesch and the president and secretary; delegates to the Auckland Association, Messrs. Sparks, Morrin and A. C. Johns; selectors. Messrs. Morrin, C. C. An application from the West End Hill Club to conduct a tournament on the same dates was referred back to the club for further consideration. Mention was made of the loss the club had sustained tbrought he departure from the district of Messrs. C. Colson, N. Bryant, and J. Heeps, who were respectively president, secretary and treasurer. The finances of the club were in a sound position, there being an excess of income over expenditure of £ll 10s on the season's working. Officers were elected as follows:—Patron, Dr. S.
