BIRKENHEAD WOMEN
MEETING OF ASSOCIATION A most gratifying and generous response was made to the appeal for a hamper for mental patients and clothing for the Auckland Hospital Auxiliary by the members of the Birkenhead Women's Association at the monthly meeting yesterday afternoon. The president, Mrs. A. E. Wood, who presided, referred to the death of Mr. A. H. White, and a vote of condolence with. Mrs. White was passed, the gathering standing in silence. Several members volunteered to assist in the collection for the St. John Ambulance Association in October. Support is also to be accorded by members to the Birkenhead kindergarten children's party. A resolution is to be forwarded to the National Council of Women urging that body to take up the question of the advocacy of reciprocity of old ago pensions within the British Empire. In order to assist the health campaign, stamps are to be sold at the meeting next month. Mrs. Kenneth Gordon, a member of the Auckland League of Nations Union, spoke on the work of the league. She was heartily thanked and presented with a bouquet.
