NEW GOLF ASSOCIATION
MOVEMENT IN WELLINGTON A move to form a Wellington Golf Association, to control inter-club matches in the district, has been on foot for some time. It has largely come as the result of the improved golf in what have been known as "minor" clubs, following the great popularity of the Watt Cup fixtures. Some of these clubs now have teams which could nearly hold their own with the "major" clubs, such as Wellington, Miramar and Hutt. The promotion of inter-club matches and the fixing of the dates of tournaments are some of the functions suggested for the new body which, it was stated at a meeting, would in no way interfere with the Dominion control of the game by the New Zealand Golf Council. The meeting was attended by 23 delegates from 13 clubs. After a long discussion it was decided to adjourn the meeting until November, after the New Zealand Golf Association's annual meeting on October 15, delegates in the meantime to place the matter before their committees.
