EARLY RATE PAYMENTS

SUBSTANTIAL INCREASE COLLECTIONS AT PAPATOETOE A substantial increase in rate collection during the first month of demand for payment was reported at the Papato<stoe Town Board last night. The clerk, Mr. W. Young, submitted a statement showing that £5142, representing 59.90 per cent of the rates, had been paid up to August 31. The collection for the same period last year had been 56.54 per cent. In addition £7lsi sxrears of rates had been collected. The bank overdraft had been repaid, and there was a credit balance oi: £B7B. This was approximately £SOO better than last year. The chairman, Mr. W. J.' Nicholson. said that at August ,1 the overdraft had been £3743. Since then th»> board had paid accounts totalling £1503, and had a' credit balance. "A pleasing feature is the increase in payment of rate arrears." he added.
