ADVANCE OF SKI-ING

NEW ZEALAND RECORDS The great advance tho sport of skiing had made in New Zealand in recent years was remarked upon by Mr. H. JV S. Johnstone, at a function at the Hermitage recently, when cups and trophies won in the championship events at the Mount Cook sports meeting wore presented. Mr. Johnstone referred particularly to tho splendid performance of A. G. Wigley in tho downhill championship event when he completed the course in 3m 48s to establish a new record. His average spoed would ho approximately 33 miles an hour and his maximum speed more than 50 miles an hour. The previous record was held by H. H. Elworthy, who covered the distance in 5m 15s when competing at the 1933 New Zealand championship meeting.
