Mrs. M. Armstrong, of Hamilton, is at the Station Hotel. Miss Betty Abbott, of Remuera, is the guest of Miss [Kathleen Mears, in Hamilton. Mrs. Frank Maoky, of Dromorne Road, Remuera, will leave by the Monterey to-morrow for Melbourne. Mrs. J. G. Coates, Miss Sheila Coates and Mrs. T. C. A. Hislop, of Wellington, are at the Grand Hotel. Mrs. C. A, Hughes, of Bell Road, Remuera, will leave for Sydney by the Monterey to-morrow on a month's holiday. Miss Noel Gresham and Miss Patsy Walker have left Rotorua for Gisborne, where they will bo the guests of Mrs. Roy Crawford. Miss Gladys Searell, of Tirohanga Avenue, Remuera, is the guest of her sister, Mrs. H. H. Featherstone, of Ngaio, WellingtonMrs. C. R. Orr Walker will arrive in Auckland by the Monterey to-morrow and will leave the same evening for her home in Timaru. Lady Robertson and Miss Joan Robertson, of Almorah Road, Epsom, will leave by the Monterey to-morrow on a visit to Melbourne. Mrs. JD. F. Thrilft, of Wellington; Mrs. F. P. Taylor, of Dunedin; and Miss M. Christopher, of Cambridge; are at the Central Hotel. The nomination of Miss B. E. Carnachan was the only one received as the parents' representative on the board of managers of the Seddon Memorial Technical College and she was duly elected. The vacancy was caused by Miss Carnachan's term of office expiring. The work of relieving cases of distress arising out of unemployment was continued by the Northcote Welfare League during the past month. The distribution included four pairs ot shoes, bovs' trousers, blankets, 4£lb wool, 10} yards of flannelette and 43 yards of warm dress material. The reports presented to the monthly meeting, at which the president. Mrs. A. J. Beck, presided, showed that the usual amount of work at t his period'had been undertaken.

The fortnightly bridge afternoon of the St. Heliers Bay Croquet Club was held in the bowlers' pavilion on Tuesday afternoon. Mrs, Lowe, the president, received the quests. Those present were: —Mr. Lockwood, Mesdames Brewer, Raymond, McMasters, Cole, Carter, Wright, Laslett, Gisbv, Negus, Morgan, Roberts. Garrard, Clarke, Moodie, Dunn, Kretschmar, Nealie, Day, Russell, Bovce, Biggs. Birks St. Clair Inglis, Appleyard. and the Misses Wardell, Porter. Hodgson. Mabbett and Applevarcl. Prizes donated by Mrs. Cole were won bv Mesd'am'es Nealie, Biggs and Laslett. Mrs. Marjorie Bateman, who recently became a director of the Keystone Advertising Service, Limited, is making & commercial tour in the Scandinavian countries, wrote our London correspondent on August 17. Mrs. Bateman recently tolcT the Conference oir Sales Managers at Bournemouth that it was high time women were admitted to membership so that sales managers could have the benefit of their advice on the distribution of goods bought by women. She is a collector of oriental furniture, has a charming flat in Regent's Park, and a house Hear Bolton Abbey, Yorkshire. Mrs. Bateman was in Napier at the time of the 1931 earthquake and she was placed in charge of a refugee camp of nearly 4000 people.
