LABOURER CHARGED

REMANDED ON BAIL Charged with obtaining £6 2s 4d from Arthur John Powdrill by false pretences, James McKenzie, labourer, aged 37, appeared before Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., in the Police Court yesterday. It was alleged that accused obtained the money by falsely representing that a cheque drawn on the Bank of New Zealand, Newton, for £6 6s 4d, and signed "W. J. Brewin," was a good and valid order for that amount. Accused, who was represented by Mr. Aekins, was remanded until Monday, bail of £SO being allowed.
