HEALTH CAMP FUNDS

FORTHCOMING CAMPAIGN ALLOCATION OF MONEYS J[BY TELEGRAPH —OWN COKItF.HIPONDENT"] WELLINGTON, Tuesday An outline of the organisation being put into operation in connection with the health campaign was given by Mr. X,. 0. Hooker,, organiser, at Feilding to-day. The two most important points ;were the arrangements for the special collections of money and the allocation rf the funds. Both of these points, Mr. Hooker said, had been discussed with the Minister of Health, Sir Alexander Young, and as a result he had received the following telegram from Sir Alexander iYoung: —"Hitherto the proceeds of the Bale of health stamps have been allocated according to postal districts. This entails rather wido areas, having in E ome cases no true relationship to tho activities of the children's health camp organisations. I welcome and approve your suggestion to attach the moneys to hospital districts, and if you can be instrumental in setting up properlyconstituted committees or associations in hospital d:is;riets where no organisations at present exist I shall be pleased to recognise such bodies and to entrust them with tho .administration of tho funds raistd. Tho only condition is that the moneys shall be expended in the maintenance at health camps of eligible children selected on the advice "of tho officers of the .school medical service, or on the recommendation of medical practitioners. "Generally speaking, I do not favour at this stage i;he use of health stamp moneys for capital expenditure, but in tho main centres where no suitable buildings exist 1 would consider representations for the allocation of part of the funds toward capital expenditure if the expected .results from the sale of this year'u stamps are attained. In many cases, particularly from small hospital district!}, the funds can be more beneficially used for the immediate help of needy children by sending them to an existing health camp where proper routine is established than by expenditure on building and equipment." ,
