DEVELOPMENT IN FIJI ' An important development in Fiji has been disclosed in the diamond drill borehole that has been sunk bj' Tavita Gold Developments,, N.L., on itii property at Tavua, states the Melbourne Argus. This is the first diamond drill bore to be made on the Tavua field, and it indicates the; length of the Emperor lode and its continuance at depth. The bore is being sunk on block No. 209 at a point close to the company's western boundary and 1000 ft. isouth of the northern boundary, which is I;he southern boundary of the Emperor block. It has entered the lode at an inclined depth of 177 ft. After 10ft. the bore was still in lode currying payable gold. The Emperor lode was cut at 125 ft. vertical depth, with a, width of 10ft. The first sft. of the lode showed values of 2dwt. of gold a ton and the second oft. Bdwt. There remains 80ft. to be borod to the boundary. The drill was set to cut the continuation of the Emperor lode at depth on a site selected by Dr. Loftus Hills and Mr. E. G. Banks, mining engineer. The drill has shown that the length of the Emperor lode covers a considerable distance. From the adit portal of the Emperor mine to the drill' hole on Tavua Gold Developments the distance is 2300 ft. ALOHA CENTRAL REPORT A report on the Aloha Central property, Tavua, Fiji, by Dr. Loftus Hills states that as a result of the three months' work on the 30 acres held under option from Mr. P. Costello by Aloha Central, the fact has been established beyond doubt that the lode systems of the Aloha Central continue downward and are not confined to the surface in the form of a flat make. He states that it is hoped the last has now been heard of the misconception in regard, to the structure and importance of the lode formations in Aloha Central. Dr. Hills suggests that attention be confined to the Sultan lode and the putting down of a series oi: diamond drill bores. The three lode groups on the property constituted a portion of one of the major lode groups oi: the Tavua goldfield, he states. 4 AUSTRALIAN PRICE OF COLD The price fixed by the Commonwealth Bank for gold, including jewellery,, lodged at the Melbourne Mint for the week ended August 23 was at the rate of approximately £7 18s 3d a standard ounce (22 carats), equal to a premium of 103.23.
