YESTERDAY'S BUSINESS INVESTMENT MARKET QUIET (Received September 3, 9.5 p.m.) SYDNEY, Sept. 3 On the Sydney Stock Exchange today, as the rise in wool prices had been fully anticipated, the general investment market was quiet and inclined to be irregular. There was less activity in . Fiji gold concerns, and reverses were suffered by Mineral Developments, Mount Kasi, and Totola, but Tavua hung round the overnight level. Commonwealth bonds were weaker. Monterey, America, dollars .. .. 4.98 V,, Australind America, dollars .. 4.97 ls /i e HUME PIPE COMPANY EXPANSION IN PROFITS Preliminary accounts of the Hume Pipe Company (Australia), Limited, Melbourne, which operates in New Zealand also, show a net profit for the vear ended June 30 of £23,040, compared with £SOIO earned in the previous year, and the best result since 1930. the company is paying a dividend of 4 per cent, the first since 6 per cent was paid in 1030. The directors report that sales have increased considerably. The future of the business depended largely upon the extent of public expenditure on sewerage schemes, roads and other pipeusing projects.
