REMOVAL OF BUILDINGS
GORE STREET EXTENSION COUNCIL ACCEPTS TENDER The contract for the demolition of the five-storey brick building in Quay Street known as Robertson Brothers' building and the one-storey corrugated iron building adjoining is to be let by the City Council to Messrs. Kelly and Herrint;. Tenders for this work were considered yesterday by the Property Committee of the council and tho tender of Messrs. Kelly and Herring was accepted. Tho successful tenderers undertake to pay the council £425 for the right to demolish these buildings, tho contractors having tho right to dispose of the materials. In turn tho council will pay them £45 for cleaning down and plastering the walls of adjoining buildings which will be exposed by the removal of the two structures, the net return to tho council therefore being £.'* 80. These buildings are being removed to permit of tho continuation of Gore Street across the old railway station site to Qua,\ Street. A similar contract was let to Messrs. Kelly and Herring in October of last year for the removal of Messrs. Dnthio, Bridsoti and Company's building in Customs Street Eagt when provision was heing made for the extension of Comf merce Street. This was also a brick building and in this case the contractors paid tho council £'<Y,i7 15s and the council paid £IH2 10s for the plastering of the party wall, the council receiving a net sum of £205 ss.
