MELBOURNE UNIVERSITYSIR JAMES BARRETT (Received August 30, 7.45 p.m.) MELBOURNE, Aug. 30 The Melbourne University Council today "appointed Sir James Barrett Chancellor in succession to the late Sir John MacFarland. Sir John Latham was appointed Deputy Chancellor. Sir James Barrett is also presidentelect of the Victorian branch of the British Medical Association. Sir James Barrett, - who is a native of Victoria, is 73 years of age. He has been Vice-Chancellor of Melbourne University since 1931. He was educated at that university and King's College, London. He is a consulting surgeon in Melbourne and a lecturer on physiology of the special senses at the University of Melbourne. He has taken part in many public activities and is the author of several publications. He was knighted in 1918.
