KAITOKE'S LAST VOYAGE
SCRAP METAL FOR JAPAN FINAL CALL AT GISBORNE [BY TELEGRAPH —OWN CORRESPONDENT] GISBORNE, Friday Making Gisborne her final port before sailing for Japan to be scrapped, the former Union Company steamer Kaitoke dropped anchor in the roadstead to-day. v In the course of her last voyage the lvaitoke has visited several ports in (lie North Island to obtain her cargo of scrap metal, while she also loaded 1000 tons of bunker coal at Westporfc for the voyage to Japan. She loaded 1500 tons of metal at Auckland, 400 tons at Napier, 750 tons at. Wellington, and her Gisborne loading will be in the vicinity of 800 tons. She is burdened with scrap metal of every conceivable nature, and the collection includes railway material, rails, motor chassis, wheels, ploughshares, old boilers, engine fittings, horseshoes, and less readily-recognisable pieces of iron. Two vessels, the Kurnalpi and the Ahuriri, which were broken up, form part of her cargo, while portions of the former Gisborne Harbour Board tub Pelican will be loaded at this port.
