NEW LAW LIBRARY
APPEARANCE OF BUILDING DEFENCE BY MINISTER [by teeegbaph—special repobteb] WELLINGTON, Friday The view that the structural additions to the Supreme Court building in Auckland for the purposes of a new law library would prove quite satisfactory from an architectural point of view was expressed to-day by the Minister of Justice, Hon. J. 0. Cobbe. "I think it is a case of the critics seeing work which is only half completed," Mr. Cobbo said, in reference to complaints by architects and others which have appeared in the press. "In arranging for the additions the department. had to restrict its plans to the Crown land whicli was available, as it was unable to come to an arrangement with the City Council regarding the use of the reserve facing Anzac Avenue. However, it was discovered that it was possible to erect a building in harmony with the existing block on the land which the department controlled. "Although the now building will be earthquake-resisting and in reinforced* concrete, it will be faced in brick and designed in the Gothic style to harmonise with the old building. When ,tho work is completed the effect will be ] quite pleasing." I
