SHORTAGE OF ONIONS CABBAGES NOW DEARER Onions wore very scarce at the City Markets yesterday, both local and Californian supplies being almost exhausted. There was no alteration in prices, however. A fresh shipment is expected to bo landed from the United States by the - Aorangi on Monday. Kuinara and .Brussels sprouts were in heavy supply and prices fell considerably. Pumpkins were still cheap, but a fairly substantial increase occurred in cabbage values. New potatoes wore in heavy supply and met with a keen demand, good lines bringing from 3d to 3jd per lb Lemons are still a glut on the market, poor lines being practically unsaleable. Pears, hothouse tomatoes, tree tomatoes and pineapples were slow of sale, but there was a good demand for Island tomatoes and apples. Oranges and local grapefruit were in fair demand. A shipment of Fiji kumara, cucumbers and bananas will bo landed from the Aorangi on Monday. The supply of poultry was medium and the demand for table birds was keen.
