CATHOLIC WOMEN

At the annual meeting of the Catholic Women's League, held this week, a resume of the year's activities was given bv the president. Special reference was made to the group campaign for funds, and to the varied and extensive activities of the league in the cause of charity. A tribute to the work of the house and furnishing committee in connection with the move to new premises was paid by the speaker. It was stated in the annual report that members had co-operated with otlier societies in assisting with street collections for the Hospital Auxiliary, the St. John Ambulance Association, the Community Sunshine Association and the Society for the Protection of Women and Children. In answer to the garment appeal to members, hundreds of serviceable, well-made and dainty garments and quilts wero made available for distribution to the bo\V orphanage at Takapuna and the girls' orphanage at Howick, the Woman s Particular Council and individual branches of St. Vincent de Paul Society, and the Homo of Compassion. Also to many individual cases of need in the city and outlying districts. The branches again gave practical and much appreciated help in forwarding garments of all kinds suitable for the orphans or needy poor. Reports were also presented from tho Rotorua, Tauranga, Waiuku, Oratia, Dargaville and Bay of Plenty branches. The chaplain, in\ discussing the league's work, expressed the gratitude of Bishop. Listoh for its assistance in so many ways. Mrs. I). P. O'Leary, vice-president, presented the president with a bouquet. The following comprise the officers for the coming year:—President, Mrs. M. Pilling; vice-presidents, Mesdames T. Buxton, R. Cruickshank, D. Tole, D. P. O'Leary, and H. Wright; ' hon. treasurer, Miss M. Ormond; secretary, Miss V. A. Walsh; hon. assistant, secretary, Mrs. Owen Kelly; council, Mesdnmes N. Dunne, K. Garland, K. Keating, W. Kemhle, C. Stichbury, F. Hamilton Smith, Misses A. Bryant, P. Flynn, M. Kerr and D. Ryan.
