BROADCASTING POLICY
Sir, —1 notice a letter in Wednesday's Hkiiam) criticising Mr. C. G. Scrimgeotir's remarks rojj;artliny; the broadcasting regulations. Apparently your corrcspondont "Friendly Advice" hns quite missed the larger vision which dominates the Friendly Road movement. Can he name any other religious body which has given us in plain and simple language the real "lovo your neighbour as yourself" method of living? Would he advocate disappointing the thousands of children who listen to and are helped by Uncle Scrim's talks, and would he count it as nothing that the sick and infirm would listen in vain for Aunt Daisy's cheery good morning? Would he bo so utterly stupid as to suggest that Uncle Scrim's influence would bo ns great preaching the ordinary platitudes from :i pulpit as it is when broadcasting to countless listeners, many of whom would not enter a church? I take it that Uncle Scrim's meaning was that if he is to be pushed off the air then the only logical thing tro do is to go where his talks will be welcomed by men in authority, who have brains enough to jecogniso and take hold of something worth while. How true is the old proverb that "a prophet hath no honour in his own country." I would like to suggest to fellow-subscribers to show some initiative and force the Broadcasting Hoard, who are our paid servants, to let us have what we want and pay for. Backbone.
