FIRST ANNUAL BALL
MAUNGAKIEKIE GOLF CLUB POPULAR FUNCTION There was a distinct atmosphere of the "Royal and ancient game" at the Peter Pan Cabaret last night, when the members of the Maungakiekie Golf Club held their first annual ball. At the first turning when entering tbe cabaret the dancers were confronted with a placard bearing the words "out of bounds." Similar terms were placed elsewhere. Shields in the club colours, blue and silver, were hung on the walls, while streamers in the same shades fringed the beams of the ceiling. Even the modest daisy was not forgotten, and huge replicas of it adorned the cubicles. Anemones and arum lilies were arranged on the tables in the ballroom, while bowls of daffodils, freesias and lachanalia as well as ribbon bows in the club colours decorated the supper tables. The guests were received by the president, J. M. Elliffe, and Mrs. Elliffe, who wore a frock of pastel blue flowered satin beaute and a spray of sweet poas. The ladies of the committee present were: —Mrs. G. R. Meredith, who wore a frock of black souple satin; Miss Betty Abbott, turquoise blue and cameo pink taffeta; Miss A. Grove, black satin beaute and silver lame cape; Miss Trixi Lamb, primrose taffeta; M iss A. M orley, sapphire blue chiffon velvet and silver lame; Miss E. Schnauer, black Cliantilly lace.
