GIFT OF CLOCK TOWER
DONOR'S FAMILY AFFAIRS POSITION AT NEW BRIGHTON "This is killing mo. I am an old man now and I can't stand much moro of this worry," exclaimed Mr. R. E. Green, the donor of tho clock and tower that have been erected at New Brighton, Christchurch, when explaining the troubles that have descended upon him as a result of the gifts. Tho latest development that has brought worry to Mr. Green is a communication from the Mayor of New Brighton, Mr. E. Smith, insisting that he furnish Mr. Smith with proof that he is providing for his wife at his death, and also the method of such provision and the amount. In the meantime the official opening of the tower is being held up. Mr. Green contends that his gift of the clock and tower to New Brighton was accepted by tho Borough Council, and that the Mayor has no right to demand from him information regarding his private affairs at this stage.
