PLAY AT PAPATOETOE
DRAMATIC SOCIETY SUCCESS The wide interest taken in the activities of the dramatic section of the Papatoetoe Literary, Debating and Dramatic Society was marked in the large attendance at the Central Theatre, Papatoetoe, on Wednesday night, when the society the well-known comedy "The Alan From Toronto." The theatre was filled and the audience showed its appreciation in sustained applause. The production was presented under the direction of Air. C. J. Alahon, whose interpretation of the play was revealed in the performance of the players and the impressive scenery and effects. The title role was borne by Air. Norman Hicks, whose rendering of a colonial's impressions in an English county family home was excellent. The dual roles of the young widow and the parlour-maid offered ample scope for Miss Alabel Bryant. Her interpretation of the flippant maid in her own house was well sustained throughout and the scenes with Air. Hicks and with Air. Eric Burton, who appeared as her uncle and solicitor, were warmly applauded. Air. Burton infused plenty of life and action in his part. Strong support was given by the other players, Mr. L. Srnythemau, Aliss Gwendoline Leonard, Aliss Alargnrot AlcFarland, Aliss L. Roseveare, Aliss L. Hunter and Aliss I. Holmes. The presentation was one of the most successful of the renderings by the society's players during the past eight years." The costuming, which was directed by Aliss Sutton, was particularly appropriate to the characters, while the scenes were effectively arranged.
