MISSIONARIES' HOMES

SCHEME FOR AUCKLAND TRUST BOARD CONSTITUTED MT. EDEN PROPERTY PROPOSED Tho provision of a rest homo for missionaries returning from overseas on furlough was urged at a meeting of tho Missionary Association yesterday, at which a Missionary Homo Trust Board was constituted. Tho Rev. A. S. Wilson presided over a largo attendance. "Between 400 and 500 missionaries have left New Zealand's shores for the foreign and homo mission fields of the world," said Mr. Wilson. "Tho fact of so many of these men and women returning constantly on furlough, after years of bravo service abroad, creates a huge responsibility for the churches and assemblies from which they have gone forth." Mr. Wilson said ho rejoiced in tho board's creation and also that a most suitable property for tho purpose had been placed under offer at a most advantageous price, £1550, the amount of the mortgage. The building, which was a 10-roonied one of two storeys at Mount Eden, was built by a member of the board, Mr. Algernon Leigh, on being invalided homo from tho Indian mission field some years ago. The intention at the time was that it should become a returned missionaries' rest home. It was used as a hospital during tho war period. It was situated in a quiet locality, with fine views, and had three-quarters of an aero of ground. Tho necessity for a home for missionaries was emphasised by Mr. B. C. Hcrcus, chairman of the association. Ho urged that the matter should bo placed before the Christian people of tho Auckland Province. The undertaking was supported also by tho Rev. H. S. Conway, secretary of tho China Inland Mission, and on his motion a sub-committee was set np. The following officers were elected: — Chairman, tho Rev. H. S. Conway; vice-chairman, Miss K. Hammond; secretary, Mr. B. C. Hercus; treasurer, tho Ilev. A. S. Wilson.
