MILK FOR CHILDREN
CO-OPERATION OF CLERGY LEAGUE OF HEALTH PLAN An indication of their intention to support wholeheartedly the objects of the League of Health of New Zealand Youth was given by members of the Auckland clergv and priesthood at a meeting held in the Town Hall concert chamber. The gathering was convened by the Mayor, Mr. Ernest Davis, who is patron. Archbishop Averill and the Rev. E. I)- Patehett. Mr. Davis outlined the objects for which the organisation was formed, stating it was proposed to secure a membership of 100,000, and inaugurate a campaign urging the Government to provide milk daily to all schoolchildren. Approval of the objects of the league was expressed by Archbishop Averill, who said he thought the clergy would consider it not only a privilege, but also a duty, to assist in the campaign. Monsignor H. F. Holbrook said the co-operation already shown in the matter among Churches of all denominations was very gratifying, and suggested the division of Auckland, into areas, the pastors concerned undertaking the complete enrolment of the people in their charges. Mr. H. J. Kelliher, founder of the movement, also addressed tho meeting. A resolution was carried approving of the circulation of membership cards among the clergy of Auckland, with a request that organisation of the various parishes be undertaken to secure signatures. It was also decided to submit the matter of obtaining signatures to various ecclesiastical and social bodies. The Rev. A. Astor, the Rev. A. J. Beck and the Rev. E. D. Patehett were appointed to represent the Churches upon the league's Auckland branch executive.
