SILVER RING'S FORM CONNECTIONS DISAPPOINTED (Received August 11, 6.35 p.m.) SYDNEY, Aug. 11 Silver Ring's performance at Rosehill yesterday greatly disappointed his connections. Ho was strongly fancied for the Flying Handicap, but could not finish better than sixth after getting away poorly. REVENUE AND STAKES AUSTRALIAN CLUBS SYDNEY, Aug. 10 A profit of £18,537 was made by the Australian Jockey Club last season. This was £3OOO less than for the previous season, but was most satisfactory considering the increased prize money. A message from Melbourne states that the Victoria Racing Club has provided £30,750 for the Melbourne Cup meeting this year. This is £OOOO less than in 1034, when the stakes were raised owing to the centenary. The Melbourne Cup this year is worth £BOOO, as compared with £IO,OOO last year. The other stakes are proportionately reduced. SUNDAY AT RICCARTON MONASTIC SOHOOLS WELL INTEREST IN SUPEREX [by telegraph—own correspondent] CHIIISTCH IJRCH, Sunday The Riccarton tracks were open for two hours this morning, and the majority of the horses engaged on Tuesday were out. A grass track was open, hut although some horses were worked on it, there was 1:10 serious galloping. The unusual spectacle of a horse being schooled on a Sunday was provided by Monastic (R. Drinkwater), who gave an excellent display over eight of the schooling steeplechase fences. He did not show any inclination to shirk any of the obstacles, and there is no doubt that his dislike for the kennels double is due to the ditch in front. Probably the advisability of putting a similar ditch in front .of one of the schooling fences for educational pur [loses will bo considered before next winter. Among new arrivals given easy work on the sand to-day were Osculate and Royal Banquet. The former is carrying solid condition and looks as. if he will need homo racing to tune him up. Royal Banquet also looks a little above himself, but is stated to race at his best when on the big side. Giggleswick is only a novice hurdler, but those who saw him schooling yesterday were under tho impression that he had been at the game longer than the few weeks H. Turner has had him in hand. He is developing into a smart jumper and with the pace he can command lie may win a raco during the week. Tarcha also did well in his schooling. Ho raced fairly well in the early part of the winter and was taken to Trenthani in tho belief that he would distinguish himself even in dress circle class, but his performances were very mediocro. "The heavy track was considered to bo tho main cause, and he was sent south in tho hope that he would shape better on _ firm ground. Taking a line through his work yesterday, ho may yet justify tho high opinion formed of him in tho Hawke's Bay district. Superox, one of P. T. Hogan's team, has attracted attention since ho arrived at Riccarton. He is a well-furnished three-year-old colt by Night Raid from Massatuko, by Last Dart from Martuko, by Martian from Mazabuka, by Chaucer. Ho is owned by Mr. J. A. Matbewson, of Dunedin, and is looked upon as a most likely Derby candidate. Ho is engaged in the Cashmere Plate on Tuesday and his showing will bo watched with interest.
