GOODFELLOW Who is to bo the leader of tho Democrat Party at tho general olection this year is a question freely asked in Auckland political circles. Candidates, officers and supporters all affect ignoranco concerning tho answer in spite Df tho frequency with which soino names are mentioned. , Apart from tho activities of Air. A. E. Davy, whoso profession in recent years has been tho organisation of political parties of various hues, tho advent of tho Democrats in Auckland has generally been attributed to Air. W. Goodfellow. It was not expected that Air. Goodfellow would contest a constituency, but it was considered that ho would be at least president of tho party and that his would bo tho biggest influence in tho formation of its policy, Recently thcro havo been rumours that Air. Goodfellow had severed or was about to sever his connection with the party. Although official party circles declined to givo theso credence, they must now be given some weight in view of Air. Goodfellow's appearance in support of tho candidature for Rotorua of Air. F. W. Doidgo against tho party'B official choice, Air. H. H. Corbin. A good many pcoplo oxpected that when Sir Alexander Herdman 3 announced his re-entry into politics ho would do so under tho auspices of tho Democrats. A number of those who were included in tho deputation which waited on him have identified themselves as members of tho Democrat Party. It is stated that an aspirant for the position of leader is Air. T. C. A. Hislop, Alayor of Wellington. NATIONAL FEDERATION WORK IN AUCKLAND EDEN AND AUCKLAND EAST A meeting of National Political Federation supporters for tho purpose of organising in the Eden electorate was held last night in tho Gordon Road Hall, Alount Eden, Air. E. H. Potter presiding. The provincial organiser, Air. B. Gordon Edwards, addressed the meeting, after which a committee was appointed to arrange details in connection with the campaign for tho organisation in the constituency. Delegates were also choson to attend a conference with the Auckland provincial executive", at which tho subject of the nomination of a National candidate for Eden will be decided. Air. P. J. Crump presided last night over a representative meeting of supporters of the Federation in the Auckland East electorate; and a working committee was appointed and delegates were selected to attend the forthcoming conference of the Federation, and also a meeting of the Women's Central Committee. It was decided to hold a further meeting next Tuesday, at which tho question of tho nomination of a candidate for the seat is to be discussed. Nominations were left open in tho meantime. THE YOUNGER ELECTORS FORAIATION OF COAIAIITTEE In response to requests from younger supporters of the National Political Federation, an informal meeting was held yesterday in the National Hall, and it was unanimously decided to appoint an auxiliary committee consisting of young men and women desiring to assist the Federation in the general election campaign. Those who attended agreed to convene a general meeting of younger electors in the Auckland constituencies for the purpose of electing a junior executive to work in conjunction with the Auckland provincial headquarters of the Federation. A provisional committee was" appointed, consisting of Alessrs. J. W. Kealy, R. Corson, B. Kingston, A. Doull, P.v Lichenstein and E. G. Farriday. The committee was authorised to arrange tho general meeting, which will bo held in the National Hall next Wednesday.
