The profitable returns of practically all the VVest Coast dredges now operating are directing attention to coast dredging, and, provided areas can be secured with a sufficient yardage to justify tho erection of large dredges, there i 9 likely to bo a considerable expansion in the industry within the next year. Ono Australian company has proved soveral areau, two or three of which are of a "marginal" character. It is understood that those will be equipped with x dredgtis contingent on tho gold tax being removed, otherwise operations will b« restricted to the areas in which the boring results indicate a more definite margin of profit. , \ REPORTS OF MANAGERS 41ataki (Mnrchison). —Last week the dredge pulled ahead 31ft. in ground tho average depth of which was 17ft.
