MR. CHARLES CHAMBERLIN AUCKLAND PIONEER LIFE ON PONUI ISLAND Tho death occurred at his home or: Ponui Island on Wednesday of Mr Charles Chamberlin, a well-knowtj pioneer of Auckland, at tho age of 81 Born in England, he came to New Zealand with his parents at an early , age, and about 70 years ago his father and an uncle bought Ponui Island and the family went to live there. Subsequently the land was used for sheep and dairy farming. About 52 years ago Mr. Chamberlin married Miss Ida Williams, daughter of tho late Captain Williams, a wellknown personality in Auckland. In his early days Mr, Chamberlin was u keen yachtsman and sailed in a craft named tho Midnight, which his father brought from England. Another yacht which ho and his brothers made well known to the yachting fraternity was the Arawa. Until quite recently Mr. Chamberlin remained active in tho handling, with remarkable skill, of a launch which he owned. Mr. Chamberlin, who was a nephew of the late Hon. Henry Chamberlin, M.L.C., is survived by his wife, one son, Mr. F. Chamberlin, of Ponui Island, two daughters, Mrs. R. B, •Hogwood, of Parua Bay, and Mrs. A. Elliott, of Timaru. His eldest son, Mr. C. S. Chamberlin, lost his life in the Great War, and his second son, Mr. J. D. Chamberlin, died some years ago. There is one brother, Mr. A. F. Chamberlin, and two sisters, Mrs. J. E. Dannefaerd and Mrs. G. C. Creagh, all of Auckland. MR. 0. W. LAMBOURNE The death occurred yesterday after a short illness of Mr. Cyril Walter Lambourne, of Keith Avenue, Remuera, at the age of 36 years. Mr. Lambourne, who was the second son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Lambourne, of Ponsonby, was well known in business circles. Educated at the old Grammar School in Symonds Street, he afterwards joined tho firm of W. Lambourne, Limited, and was ono of its directors at the time of his death. He is survived by his wife and two children. MBS. 0. SIKIFFINGTON [fhom our own correspondent] HAMILTON, Thursday The death occurred in Hamilton Eai t to-day of Mrs. Catherine Skiffingtoil, wife of Mr. Francis Skiffington, aged 73 years. Mrs. Skiffington was born in County Derry, Ireland, and she arrived in New Zealand in 1880. When coming to New Zealand in the ship Piako tie vessel caught fire and the passengers had to be landed in South America. I t was some weeks before the Piako could resume her voyage. Mrs. Skiffingtoil, who before her marriage was Mius Catherine Mullin, spent many years in Southland and came to Hamilton Eaut 14 years ago. She is survived by her husband, four sons and one daughter. MRS. H. SEROREN [BY TELEGRAPH —OWN CORRESPONDENT I PALMERSTON NORTH, Thursday The death has occurred, at the ag;e of 90 years, of Mrs. H. Sergren, who was born in Stockholm and came io New Zealand in 1871. After her marriage to the late Mr. Martin Anderson she came to Manawatu, where Mr. Anderson took up land at Whakarongo. He died in 1882, and three years latof Mrs. Anderson married Mr. Heinrich Sergren, who was for many years engaged in the tannery works at Palmerston North, dying in 1911. Mrs. Sergren is survived by two Bons and one daughter.
