ANNUAL HAMILTON EVENT DEBUTANTES PRESENTED The Regent Ballroom, Hamilton, presented an attractive and festive appearance last evening on the occasion of the annual Roman Catholic debutantes' ball. Vaii-coloured streamers and twisted pastel-tinted festoons swayed above the dancers, while imitation water-lilies entwined the supporting pillars. Balloons) streamers and ferns added variety to the colour scheme. The stage, surrounded by bamboo and greenery, made a charming background for the pretty frocking of the debutantes. The tables in the supper room wore decorated in shades of pink, with bowls of camellias, anemonies a,nd pink japonica. Dainty shaded lights and autumn-coloured flowers gave the balcony the appearance of a fairyland. At D o'clock the presentation ceremony took place, Monsignor Cahill, vicar-general, accompanied by Father Bleakley, being met by the official reception committee, comprising Messrs. P. J. Gallagher, S. J. Jenkuison, E. Jones, T. N. Pemberton, K. Smith «lnd M. Stapleton. The debutantes, led by a prettily i'rocked little page girl, Eileen Kelly, marched singly up the centre of the floor. At a given point they paused while the announcer, Mr. W; C. Wynne, called out their names, whereupon they advanced, curtsied, and took up a position on the stops behind Monsignor Cahill. At the close of the ceremony a brief speech was made by Monsignor Cahill, who congratulated the organisers 011 the wonderful success which had attended their efforts. He also added a few words to the debutantes as to tho responsibilities awaiting them upon entry into society under the auspices of the Church. At the close of tho speech each debutante passed down to her waiting 1 escort, and after taking part in a special dance, went in to supper. Tho matrons of honour were:—Mrs. E. 'Jones, who wore black Chantilly lace with diamante trimming, and Mrs. T. N. Pemberton, in briar rose flat crepe with flower spray. Tho hostesses were:—Mrs. P. Clarkin, who wore black lace with midnight blue cape; Mrs. P. J. Gallagher, black windswept satin and gold coatee; Mrs. S. J. Jenkinson, crushed blackberry velvet; and Mrs. W. Wynne, flame satin beaute and gold lame. Tho debutantes were: —Miss Joan Davis, wearing parchment suede satin cut on Grecian lines; Miss Florence Van Houtte (To Mata), ivory crepe with lace insertion; Miss Rona Jones, cream silk velvet with silver lame t|ain; Miss Erin McCrory (Te Awamutu), white silk net with velvet cape; Miss Patricia McKendry (Newstead), white chevron crepe with flounced bustle; Miss Joyce Powell, ivory moire taffeta and silk net with cascade frills; Miss Joan Salisbury, ivory satin beaute with train; Miss Neva Swann. (Ruapuke), ivory radium lace with velvet bow; Miss Nora Turner, ivory taffeta with silk net frilled skirt: Miss Avleen Wintere, ivory satin beaute with taffeta frills; Miss Grace Wightman (Kawhia), ivory crepe with satin trimmings; Miss Eileen Wright (Ghaupo), ivory windswept satin and silver girdle; Miss Dorothy Chitty, ivory taffeta and net; and Miss Phyllis Patrick, ivory guipure lace and tulle. Members of the various committees present were:—Mesdames Vere Chitty, F. Farrell, J. Hynes, D. Simcock, E. M. Chainey, W. Davis, J. McGrath, D. O'Leary, H. White. J. Arns, W. Dwyer, J. Dunleavev, F. Beehan, J. Ctirrie, C. Noble, E. Sweeney, F. Stubbins, M. Clarkin, and Miss Joan Parkhouse.
