LIVE AND LET LIVE

Sir, —Mr. James Wylie's thoughtful letter in last Thursday's Herald has reminded me of some disastrous results of men and Governments meddling in trading concerns. The millions lost by past Australian State Governments in such schemes as shipping, brick-making, run-holdings, etc., etc., stand out as a warning to all sensible men. Coming to our own shores and our own city, the City Council's colossal financial blunder in municipal fish markets is still being paid for by the ratepayers of Auckland. It seems strange in the face of past warnings that members of the Auckland Electric-Power Board are prepared to risk borrowed money secured on the property of ratepayers in a trading Tenture of doubtful results. Steugcllng Ratepayer.
